THE RIGHT KIND OF LEADERSHIP

Warm greetings from Tomorrow Leaders Forum blog, ‘Quite a while you’d say’ I have been here and there but one thing is that this your wonderful friend have not been idle but doing profitable ventures that has contributed or inspired this blog.

Leadership according to Merriam Webster’s Learner’s Dictionary is the power or ability to lead other people and again to lead means to guide on a way especially by going in advance or to direct on a course or in a direction.

In analysis, to lead means POWER and ABILITY are yours to access or you gain entrance into the bank of POWER and ABILITY. Also a closer look at what it means to LEAD shows it means to GUIDE ON A WAY. This further shows that THERE IS A WAY and conclusively it pointed that YOU MUST GO IN ADVANCE. Who is the YOU here, THE LEADER.

With this analysis we can safe land on the reality of who a leader is. It is rather painful that among the youth today leadership offices are egotistical emblems or titles they carry about like a badge on their shirt without knowing the value, qualities, duties and functions of a leader. I met someone who wanted a certain leadership position and without any intention to embarrass him I asked this simple question “In that office what is your role” Trust me he couldn’t answer. I cannot but admit that everything is not well. What kind of education are we getting? There is serious problem, one we need to address before we become the worse for it.

Certainly youths are leaders of tomorrow like the popular saying goes, but it is necessary to mention and remind us that TODAY WAS YESTERDAYS TOMORROW. This implies that our TOMORROW is already here TODAY. Today Nigeria has taken backstage in most things and I mean things that we should be foremost and famous for. Things like Economy, Politics, Education, Health, and Security among others for the same reason of LEADERSHIP. Africa generally suffer in the hands of bad leadership and if we do not teach our children true leadership at homes and in schools up to the university level, the present Nigeria and Africa will be classed best when compared to the future which at the moment is our last hope.

Now to the real thing, LEADERSHIP is using the power you now access to move the people you are leading through directions that only ends in their rightful destination for their family, institution, nation, religion and the world depending on where the territory of your power ends. If you notice my definition YOU was not used instead you find THEIR, this shows it is MORE about the people you are leading than about you. The great teacher Jesus in Bible fame once said ‘Does any
among you want to lead, let him serve’. Like this or hate it, A LEADER IS SUPPOSE TO BE A SERVANT. Yes you read that right A SERVANT. The phrase SELFLESS SERVICE should be the principal quality of a good or right kind of leader because He care less of his self than for the people, little wonder why Nelson Mandela would rather die than get the apartheid government’s favours while other black South Africans continue to leave in slavery, intimidation, segregation, poverty and oppression and Mohandas Gandhi could take up the fight to liberate India and Martin Luther Kings Jnr didn’t fear death to have and share that dream about the freedom of the black race that would assassinate him in no time. If you want to know who leaders are those three names among hundreds more are the definitions of true leaders.

Furthermore, in leadership there is ABILITY to guide. To mention some of this abilities are; Ability to lead people to the right destination, ability to help people discover themselves, ability to take from a strong and rich oppressor what he stole from the poor and helpless and hand it back to the poor, ability to end corruption, ability to end insurgency, ability to protect women and children, ability to educate the youths, ability to eradicate poverty and end HIV/AIDS, ability to improve our economy, ability to end criminal activities and I could go on and on.
I pray you that has taken the time to read this that you start to desire to lead not because your entire family held that office or because the ladies will like you more just for that or because with that office you could shut everyone up and have your way. Desire to lead because you would use the power and ability to right the wrongs of society and lead people, Nigeria, Africa and the world to their rightful destination. You may look small, frail, uneducated, among the minority of your society but within you is the mighty ability beyond your wildest imagination to lead and bring about the right kind of changes in Nigeria.

Read more about the office or post you intend to resume leadership position in, look at the statistics over the years, know the jinx in that office, look at where your predecessors failed or succeeded, if there is a current leader on that seat applaud his great moves and where he isn’t getting it right, work on ways where you could make it better and if you have access to him do not hesitate to lend your advice or suggestion to make it work because if he blows the whole thing down you won’t have the chance to make it right because that office could go extinct and to build it all back could take great effort and time, read books about people who were great leaders and you would see a unifying zeal to make a difference in their world, you can emulate those attitudes and trust me you are good to go.

Enjoy leadership but just be sure to be the right kind of leader.

God bless Nigeria, Africa and the world.
