Nigeria has suffered the loss of countless precious lives and properties since 2009. That was the year an ugly stranger emerged — Boko Haram , a violent terrorist sect that has plagued our nation ever since. Before Boko Haram ’s rise, Nigeria was already struggling with tribal skirmishes and intermittent religious clashes that often took the lives of innocent Christians. Over the years, cruel public killings have occurred —among the most shocking being the mob killing of Deborah Samuel Yakubu in Sokoto State , murdered by her fellow students who accused her of blasphemy. Tragically, no one was brought to trial for her death. Most of these killings have been carried out by Islamic extremists who claim their actions are in defense of their faith. Beneath this land lie huge deposits of mineral wealth; above, live the most talented, energetic, innovative, creative and intelligent humans on earth. We are a people capable of the impossible. Our capabilities as a people are largely untapped, revealing a huge deposit of unexplored potentials. Blessedly diverse, we are naturally hospitable and accommodating — living together in faith of the reality of a great future we all see in our minds — children inclusive.  Clearly, the future is ours. But more sacrifices, dedication, commitment, trust, hope, faith and patriotism must eternally go in.
