The inspiration to make this up came yesterday when I read the sentence of the Ex-Liberian President Charles Taylor, 64 to 50 years behind bars where he had sent countless people to when he had the power.
Charles Taylor's sentence points out that he was guilty of an 11 count charge of war crime which extends beyond the shores of Liberia. He used his blood diamonds to exchange for weapons to fuel the war in neighboring Sierra Leone which lasted for 6 years and took away the lives of 50,000 potential African changers, positive history makers, and dreams embedded Africans before it ended in 2002.
Now this is where the history about this guy lies, HE WAS THE FIRST FORMER PRESIDENT TO BE SENTENCED FOR WAR CRIME SINCE THE END OF WORLD WAR II. Now this kind of history don't make a New York Times Best Selling book of Success Stories. This is the wrong kind of History!
Hey! there are good money and there are bad money. There are good successes and there are bad successes. There are good dreams and there are bad dreams. There are good ambitions and their are bad ambitions. That is why you don't see a book in a book store authored by an assassin, an armed robber or even a fraudster boldly stating '10 steps to becoming a star robber or super fraudster' or the likes, simply because it is not the right kind of success.
But you and I can make the right kind of history.
You can be the first to build a floating mansion, you can be the first to find a permanent cure to HIV and AIDS, you can be the first to invent a gadget that the world could never have imagined. You can be the greatest sportsman or woman the world have seen.
As a little African boy, the stories of famous people like Isaac Newton, Leibniz, Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Michael Faraday, Dell Smith, Iaccoca and the others left something indelible in my mind. It arouse my aggression positively towards wanting to see Africans also named within this category whether Africans at home or those abroad.
Most of the times what we see is our politicians charged for money laundering or even doing time in some foreign jails while the people of their states are living in abject poverty and penury. Others want to stay in power till Kingdom come when they haven't made any positive impact in the lives of the people they were suppose to serve. What kind of history are these, Where are all the Nelson Mandelas gone!
Friends, if we fail again what hope do we have?
We are the ones to ensure 9-11 never pick a new date. That another Osama Bin Laden never rise to Stardom again. That another Charles Taylor never rule Liberia or anywhere else again. That another Robert Mugabe never make Zimbabwens ever go through what they are going through right now again. We are the ones to ensure Al Qaeda, Boko Haram, Al Sheebab and ISIS are permanently erased from all angles of the world, And we are the ones who will take up power and give our nations the kind of beautiful live they only watch in fantasy movies.
This is what you want, believe me! To live a live where you make people smile or even laugh order that make people cry and mourn. A life where you make people prosper instead of making them poor. A life where you make people enjoy instead of making them suffer. A life where you are a hero and not the devil. A life where you are told 'Thank You' rather than 'woe To You'. And of course a life where you are a blessing and not a curse.
So I invite you to join me on this side of life where we are the plus and not the cross to be borne.
Remember if the devil gets another chance to be installed back as one of God's angels, he would also like to make the right kind of history (laugh out loud).
